Hogarth Academy Computing Curriculum Intent

Our curriculum at Hogarth is designed to …

  • provide children with the opportunities to learn and grow through in school and out of school learning experiences, as we know for the vast majority of our children, their wider experience in Computing and cultural capital needs enriching.
  • Enable children to become a computer user
  • build on prior learning, provides first-hand experiences
  • allow the children to develop interpersonal skills, building resilience, emotional intelligence and enabling our learners to become good communicators and critical thinkers
  • become ‘thinkers’, people who are reflective and able to make reasoned decisions based on clear principles, to be ‘true to themselves’.
  • develop a love of and know the importance of Computingwithin their lives
  • understand themselves within a global community and to make links with other children within their own city, their country and internationally.

Concept Driven Curriculum

At Hogarth Academy, we know our children are inquisitive about the world they live in and the wider universe. Through our teaching of Computing, the children will learn a range of subject specific skills, through which, they will gain a range of subject specific knowledge. The range of skills and knowledge is ensured through the key concepts that are:

  • E-Safety

This is the study of using online technologies in a safe and responsible manner.

  • Impact of Technology

This is the study of what technology is both in school and the wider world and how it can impact on our lives.

  • Data Handling & Modelling

This is the study of collecting, presenting and interpreting data using different software.  This can include setting up spreadsheets and entering formulas to calculate values of cells.

  • Multi-Media

This is the study of producing content which uses a combination of different media types.

  • Programming

This is the study of learning how to write programs using software to achieve desired outcomes.  This also includes understanding how to correct errors and debug their scripts and given scripts.
