Hogarth’s Vision for Our Children in History
In terms of History curriculum we want the children who embark on their journey through Hogarth Academy to achieve and become curious and thorough historians by learning about each of the concepts we have included in our whole school curriculum. These are:
This is the study of where in time certain events, people and changes happen and what impact they have had on current living.
This is the study of how we understand that history is made up of a number of different sources and how we understand these from different perspectives. This includes, but is not limited to: reliability of evidence, witnesses of history and differences between the past and present presentation of historical events, people and places in a variety of different eras.
This is the study of learning how to ask and answer questions about historical events, people and places throughout the past. This is also includes the comparison of different events and research into given era.
We want children to enjoy learning about the history of their current locality and that of the world with the skills of chronological understanding and historical interpretation/enquiry to understand how events of the past influence our present and future. We know children will, in time, come to understand these 3 concepts respectively as we continue to develop our foundation curriculum from history in living memory to ancient world history.
Learning about History starts in the early years , here at Hogarth Academy. We have mapped out the progression of skills for our youngest children against the EYFS curriculum
